Thiel College in Greenville, Pennsylvania is a private Lutheran college. It is one of the smallest colleges in the area providing undergraduate studies in liberal arts, sciences and professional studies. Thiel was founded in 1866 as a coeducational college with 3 of its first 5 students being female. It is a well-rounded college that offers a variety of opportunity for all students but homeschooled students in particular. If your homeschooled student is looking at colleges continue reading this Thiel College Review for Homeschoolers.

Campus Life at Thiel College
There is a saying, “at Thiel, there is something for everyone”. With the school being so close-knit and also close to bigger cities students get to experience the small campus feel but also the big city if that is what they desire. Thiel location allows its students to be in a more relaxed atmosphere and in a more nature environment. However, if the need for an internship arises in a nearby city such as Pittsburg, Cleveland or Erie, students can definitely weigh those options without the geography of the school being a deciding factor. Which I’m pretty sure it will because 100% of Thiel’s graduates intern prior to graduating. The school is only a 90-minute drive from the Pittsburg area and about 40 minutes from Youngstown, Ohio.
Another thing that I thought was really interesting about Thiel College is that from 11am – 12 pm every Tuesday, no classes or meeting are scheduled for Community Hour. This is a time where ALL students are invited for a Chapel service. On Thursdays from 11am-12pm is Common Hour and students are encouraged to participate in activities around campus. This is such a great way to get students involved without the fear of missing classes. I sure wish my college would have done something like this!
If you are ready to start considering options for college, I highly recommend that you consider Thiel College not only for the reasons above but simply because of:
- Small class sizes
- One-on-one academic advising
- Thiel Community and Common Hours
- Internship and career counseling services
- Faculty preparedness in their fields
- Geographic location
