We are so busy running from point A to point B these days that it isn’t often families get quality time together. Many families sit down to dinner together which is amazing but, aside from that, how often does your family spend quality time together? Family game nights are a great way for your family to get that quality time in. Here are some of my favorite family game night games:
Outdoor Games
Rally and Roar Toppling Tower
Rally and Roar Toppling Tower is a much larger version of an old favorite, Jenga. It stands around two and a half feet tall when first assembled and can be stacked to almost five feet tall. What better way to get outside and have a good time with the family.
Ladder Toss
Ladder Toss has been around for quite awhile. You have probably seen it at large get-togethers, but it doesn’t have to be just for large events. Ladder Toss is a great way for the family to relax and enjoy the outdoors together.
Capture the Flag
The glow in the dark edition makes this a fun after dark game for the whole family. Everything is battery powered. Batteries even come with the game.
Light Up Lawn Darts
If you remember lawn darts, these are the same thing just without the sharp tip. Since they have LED lights in them, you can play both before and after dark.
Indoor Games
HedBanz Game
HedBanz is a fun way to interact with the family. I love that each round can be as quick or as long as we want. It works best with older kids who can easily describe things and answer somewhat vague questions about objects. It can be played with younger kids with modifications though.
The Sock Game
The Sock Game is great for the whole family. The rules are simple so anyone of any age can play. Fill the provided socks with items. Spin the spinner and reach into the sock and find the item. You can even fill in the provided blank cards and add a few items from your home.
Phase 10
Phase 10 resembles rummy in many ways. I love that within the game the kids can work on their basic math skills.
The Ultimate Book of Family Card Games
There are so many fun games on the market these days but, don’t forget about a good old fashioned deck of cards. Even the little ones can play a lot of card games. If they can’t play by themselves they will be excited to help a grown up.
Pie Face
Pie Face is a favorite of my kids. I have to admit that I too enjoy playing it as well. The excitement of waiting for the hand to come up will keep everyone entertained.
Mega Spoons
Mega Spoons works the same as the spoons game you may remember playing growing up, it is just larger. Since the cards and spoons are a bit bigger, it makes it easier for little hands to play.
Connect Four
Connect four is perfect for the little ones in the family but, the older ones can get bored easily. Don’t be afraid to change it up and add your own little twists or incentives to keep the older ones interested too.
Apples to Apples Junior
Apples to Apples is a fun game of comparisons. This one would be harder for the really little ones. It would be best for anyone from the ages of 7 or 8 and up.
Tweens and Up
Phone Phever
Phone Phever doesn’t come with a phone but will work with either your iPhone or Android.
Hearing Things Game
The Hearing Things Game is fun for the whole family. The speech canceling headphones come with preloaded sounds that make it impossible to hear anyone talking. The goal is to wear the headphones and guess what phrase is being said to you by reading lips.
There is no better family time than that that is shared with laughs and memories. I hope you were able to find a couple of new games to add to your family game night or, a few to get your collection started. If I didn’t list it above, please share your favorite family game night games with me!
