What do you think of when you think of homeschooling?
A mom who teaches her children around the kitchen table. A homeschool co-op. A family garden or trips to the library. What if I told you that sometimes homeschool looks a little different than that? What if, a parent wants their child to have the benefits of homeschooling but can’t afford to stop working. What if, someone else can give them all of those things but they are not the parent. That’s where I come in. You see I own a private homeschool.
Private homeschool. What do you mean? What is that?
I homeschool other people’s children. Those parents who want their children to have the benefits of homeschooling but can’t quit their jobs for whatever reasons (who are we to judge). I am here to step into and fill that role.
The number one question that I get from people is “What do you mean you homeschool other people’s children?’ “Is that even a thing?” Here are the answers to those questions.
Is this a thing?
First of all, it most definitely is a thing, BUT it is NOT a thing in all states. I’ve done a lot of research on this for people who have been interested in my business model and some states will only allow parents to homeschool their own children. I know, bummer!
What is homeschooling other people’s children?
Secondly, what does homeschooling other people’s children mean… well, just that. My own children are grown and out of school. I’m a former public and parochial school teacher who left the system and saw a need for a school for students who learn differently. Parents would love to homeschool their children, but for reasons which are not our business, they must work outside of the home. I am the next best option.
I provide a safe, small, and secure environment for their child. It’s homey but it’s school. Like an actual school building that we built in our yard! We have a structured schedule but also have the flexibility to change things up as needed. It is the best of both worlds, it’s what I call a private homeschool.
Heritage Homeschool Academy is a private homeschool located in South Louisiana. Here I specialize in upper elementary and middle school (grades 5-8) and offer an alternative option to the traditional school. I place an emphasis on students who learn a little bit differently from the rest, and my focus is to give them the chance to really shine!
